The complicated tale of the Argylls and their toxic marriage came to a brutal head on tonight's episode ofStarting with a vicious confrontation between the Duchess, Lady Margaret and the Duke, Lord Ian Campbell , their relationship immediately goes from bad to worse in the final episode.
However, Ian is angered when he discovers it's not enough to secure a divorce due to adultery, as the pictures are dated and it could be argued he condoned her behaviour. So, he breaks into the London property Margaret is living and violently pins her to the bed as his daughter, whom he's brought with him, swipes her most recent diary.
In a vicious response, Margaret files a counterclaim of divorce against her husband, claiming he had been sleeping with her stepmother.Margaret continues to make counterclaims against the Duke, including an allegation the"headless man" is in fact him, forcing him to get a private examination of his pubic hair, in front of lawyers, to prove otherwise.
Ian tries to blackmail her into silence, asking for £250,000 and a divorce due to her infidelity, or she'll forever be known for her"numerous infidelities". She refuses.As the trial commences in 1963, Margaret's lawyers urge her to drop her case, but she stands firm. Consequently, the"headless man" photograph is shown in court, with a doctor debunking her claim that it's Ian.
Throughout the case, the judge is seen showing favour towards the Duke, allowing him to sit while making Margaret stand for hours, and later gives a scathing indictment of Lady Margaret's behaviour.
