While the northern part of the state is seeing signs of the crisis abating, a surge of cases is straining hospitals in the south

California this week became the first US state to record 3m Covid-19 infections. But, within its borders, Californians have been living through two different pandemics. As the north begins to see encouraging signs that the latest, most severe period of the crisis is beginning to abate, southern California and the central valley have continued to face a deluge.

This has more to do with the fact that the southern portion of cali is urban and the northern portion is rural with scattered smaller cities. Not to mention, the entire upper portion of California is heavily red, so you can expect MASSIVE discrepancies in counting.
