Currently, I’m in a phase where I’m temporarily opting out of the news cycle. However, following a great swathe of information that flowed from World Mental Health Day on 10 October, I’m trying to approach this small reprieve differently.
One of the reasons that Jamie Lee Curtis is so special to me, outside of her work in film, is that she is the mother of a trans daughter and, being such a high profile personality, she has used her position to be actively positive and supportive of her daughter and gender-diverse people everywhere.
I can remember being so moved and excited when I saw Curtis’s response to her daughter being trans, as I am with any positive demonstration of allyship, but it felt deeper, more momentous thatwould be a person coming out so publicly in support of trans people, and being so close to the trans experience. Her advocacy is consistent, too, with regular Instagram boosts of trans creators like ALOK, and her continued, vocal support of her daughter.
