‘You did something you probably don’t remember, but to me was so kind and so big, I’ll never forget’: the letter you always wanted to write

I remember the very first time I met you, I wanted to hate you. You stole my mum away from my dad – at least that’s what I believed at 10 years old. I was wrong, but I wouldn’t learn for a while that someone cannot steal anyone else’s affection; they choose to go. I couldn’t hate you, though: you were kind to us; you made my mum smile like I’d never seen; and you let us have whatever pudding we wanted.

Her most vivid memory .. is him doing what she wanted and buying her a ridiculously expensive toy. What a lovely story

yuk!

Beautiful story ❤️

Omg that really got me...Lucky family.😢

Papa was a stepping stone.

I am 75 and I had a wonderful stepfather. My own father died when I was a baby and if I had been allowed to go out and choose a replacement I could not have done better. A wonderful man with a huge heart. How lucky was I.

I’m a full time stepmum to my husbands’ 15 year old daughter who came to live with us 8 years ago via a legal case of abuse/neglect. I have no children myself. It’s been hard but oh so rewarding

salihughes It’s never easy and takes selflessness and humility. What a legacy of care, empathy and patience this man has bestowed on this family, true love in action. We need more of this in the world x

My husband is a fantastic step Dad, my two children haven't seen their biological Dad since they were 5 &7 (his choice) they are now 31 & 29. Their step Dad has been there for 18 years & they just adore him, he's everything a Dad should be & more & loves them like his own.

Step-parenting how it should be. The problems occur when; you don’t care, don’t include, don’t make the children feel loved, and don’t encourage your partner to remain supportive of the needs of the children they left behind.

salihughes Both my husband and I have parents who are divorced and are lucky enough to have wonderful step parents. Our children have 4 sets of great grandparents- how lucky are they!

Furious parents slam 'patronising' council campaign to send ill kids to schoolPARENTS have slammed a “patronising” council campaign to send ill children to school. East Sussex County Council urged “be a pushy parent – get them to school” in a ne… They don't get money for days kids are not there !! So send a sick child to school to pass it round the whole class... well thought out that plan 🙄 I actually agree with what the council suggest, having a minor cough, cold shouldn't stop kids going to school. School is part of the preparation in moving into adulthood and employment and minor illnesses shouldn't stop you attending work.

'My dear Prime Minister': Alan Jones's apology letter to Jacinda Ardern revealedExclusive: Radio host says he meant ‘no violence’ toward PM with his ‘shove a sock down throat’ comment and asks Ardern to a debate on climate change jacindaardern Is “backhanders” a tennis reference? I don’t suppose you’re allowed to tell people to fuck off. So I just did x jacindaardern and I love this photo! You look so happy! It must be nice to get out of the house. Such disrespect being shown to a PM. The disease of hate and attempted bullying is catching on. I’m so glad she is a strong woman.
