“I chose to wear this gorgeous red sparkler from Conner Ives because he is an emerging London-based American designer who gives us both style and sustainability,” Amber Valletta told Vogue.

. For this year’s ceremony – which also celebrated the organisation‘s 60th anniversary – Valletta opted for a ravishing demi-couture gown embellished with sequins, Swarovski crystals and feathers, created by upcycling pioneer Conner Ives.

“I chose to wear this gorgeous red sparkler from Conner Ives because he is an emerging London-based American designer who gives us both style and sustainability!” Valletta explained after the ceremony. “The entire dress is made from reclaimed materials – including the satin base and chiffon lining. It is accented with reignited, excess Swarovski crystals,” she added of the piece, which incorporates fabric from ’80s blouses.

As for being tasked with presenting an award, “It was truly an honour to present Amina Mohammed [who, as its deputy secretary-general, accepted on behalf of the UN] with the Environmental Sustainability Award, because as a global organisation they exist to bring peace to our world,” Valletta said. “Amina’s work is incredibly inspiring, as she was a part of creating the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These goals are actionable not only for the fashion industry to use, but any business.
