Would you buy an electric car? New research says 55 is the cut-off age when most drivers don't want one

KPMG survey found that 75% of over-55s are concerned with range anxiety. Just 40% of motorists between 18 and 25 years share the same worry. Research claims that half a million electric cars could be on the roads by 2025.

I want diesel

Wrong. I get my Nissan Leaf E-Tekna the end of the month, I'm 68 years. With it's technology it will, hopefully, keep me and others safer as I get older. It's my money so I'm going to spend it on me while I am fit and able. Batteries last about 10 years, that will do for driving

No

Until they find out it'll drive itself.

I would purchase one, however, due to the cost, battery life and the cost to replace the batteries. I'll wait a few more years till this improves.

NO.

I’m waiting for better and more numerous charging availability.

Juanjo3800 Well you know after decades driving a gasoline car where you feel the power of its mechanics like Hamilton do..it is really hard to change it for a weak power electric car with a very limited battery yet.I like to smell the petrol and the powerful noise of the engine!

NO

When an electric car can be recharged as fast as I can fill my petrol car then I'd be interested untill then no thanks, don't see my age as a factor tbh

Who comes up with this shite

I have to park my car two streets away so I don’t think the wire would be long enough!

I’m 56 I don’t want one, ever

I will choose a bicycle over car without hesitation

A bit surprising. At 55 the kids have moved out, mortgages are paid off and you have a good salary, so that should be the age when a lot of people can afford a more expensive car.

Classic Boomer 🤣

Electric Than Price Shock..One Has To Think Twice Before Buying bbc guardian cnn nyt

Charging one in my current house would be a problem, in fact for most of my city it would be a problem.

Not in our two cases, both my husband & I are over 50, and we purchased 2 electric cars this week. A Tesla and an Audi. How large was your sample size? Was it geo-diverse?

My sister and brother-in-law have just bought one - he's 72 and she's 65. :-/

Absolute nonsense 🤣

Electric car future may depend on deep sea miningDemand is soaring for the metal cobalt, an essential ingredient in batteries and abundant on the seabed. Or invading the Congo. Can we please be honest about the environmental impact of extracting the elements and rare-earth metals, upon which this technology depends? Almost two centuries of using the ICE cannot be changed overnight and everyone should be aware of the real resource costs to try and do so. Engine sizes have come down to improve efficiency, but there is more that could be done. EV switch over is a long way away still.
