£5.1m roads improvements in Greater Manchester borough nearing completion

A £5.1m highways improvement programme in Trafford is nearing completion. The One Trafford Partnership - a collaboration between Trafford council and infrastructure specialist Amey - says that more than 100 schemes have been completed on the borough’s road network.

Multiple treatment methods such as resurfacing, surface dressing, patching, and footway enhancement have been carried out, it says. Notable schemes delivered include Carrington Spur A6144, extending from the M60 Roundabout to Banky Lane, Atlantic Street, Charcoal Road, Irlam Road, and Norris Road. In the 2023/24 programme, about 283,210sq m across highway works, including resurfacing, surface dressing, and patching was completed. This area is roughly equivalent to nearly 40 football pitches.Over the last year, the partnership has been working with Transport for Greater Manchester to improve bus stops across the borough; improving accessibility and supporting a better, connected city.

Coun Stephen Adshead, executive member for highways, environmental and traded services, said: “Highways represent our largest asset, and it's essential we use our expertise to not only maintain but enhance their condition. "This year’s highway capital programme, with an investment of £5.1m, demonstrates our dedication to protecting our roads and increasing the longevity of surfaces using advanced surface treatment methods.”
