The earthquake, unusually strong for the region, struck at 10:23 a.m. ET, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

As the took batting practice ahead of Friday’s home opener against the , a 4.8 magnitude earthquake shook the region. But a team official said that the game remained as scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET. It was epicentered in northern New Jersey about 50 miles west of Yankee Stadium, where music was blasting as the Yankees hit on the field in preparation for their game.

The team continued to take batting practice throughout, as there were no noticeable tremors in the stadium press box.
