Police and ambulance crews were called following the discovery at Waterglade Industrial Park in Grays at 1.40am.
All 39 people were pronounced dead at the scene and the lorry driver, a 25-year-old man from Northern Ireland, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Essex Police Chief Superintendent Andrew Marriner said the vehicle is thought to have come from Bulgaria and entered the UK at Holyhead in Wales on Saturday.

Some of this doesn't make sense, the driver is NI, the lorry entered via Wales and ended up in thurrock, how were these poor people not spotted, if they are illegals they must have entered the lorry before it left Ireland. R.I.P.

This is tragic. The lorry driver has been arrested. People smugglers whoever they are must be held accountable and punished to the maximum extent of the law.
