The warning is set to come into place at 9am tomorrow and last until 11.59pm. It comes as temperatures in parts of the UK are set to soar this weekend with six regions in England also under yellow UK Health Security Agency Heat-Health alert.
The warning states: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected on Saturday, during the morning mainly over parts of England before becoming mainly focused over northern England and Scotland by late afternoon/evening. Some intense downpours are likely and whilst rainfall accumulations will vary from place to place, as much as 50 mm of rain could fall in a short space of time in some locations.
A spokesperson for the UK’s weather service said that temperatures could tail off as early as Saturday evening as thunderstorms sweep across the “spine” of England following two days of high temperatures. “There will potentially be quite spectacular thunderstorms on Saturday running along the spine of England. Then we have a return to fresher conditions once that cold front has moved through.
