Red-light district Geylang has a reputation for ‘chickens’ and ‘ducks’, euphemisms for female and male sex workers plying their trade there. But the area is just as well-known for actual food — you’d have to go to Geylang for an excellent plate of, which is described as a “one-stop duck specialist restaurant for all things duck”.
The irony of opening a ‘duck shop’ in Geylang is not lost on Ducking Good’s young chef-owner Carlos Gan, 26, who reckons that his restaurant serves comfort food catering to the same crowd that flock to Geylang for frog porridge or Hokkien mee. He quips: “It's good fun and punny to strategically open a ‘duck shop’ in Geylang. People will remember it better!”, which is wrapped in a salt cast to cook to impart a briny flavour. Can’t decide?
