SINGAPORE - Almost 30,000 people have signed two separate online petitions calling for the National University of Singapore and the police to take tougher action against the man who filmed undergraduate Monica Baey in a shower at student residence Eusoff Hall last November.

Ms Baey, a third-year NUS communications and new media undergraduate, took to her Instagram account on Thursday and Friday to share that she had noticed an iPhone being held underneath the door, after she finished showering at the hall on Nov 25 last year. The petition read:"We need to do more to protect our girls from such perverts! Such inaction is unacceptable and will only encourage more perverts to commit such crimes! It will also set an unhealthy precedent for future cases!"

On Sunday, Ms Baey and close to 500 other students also signed another petition addressed to several heads of the university, calling for more clarity on the members of the committee.

NUS has no backbone to protect our young. They need to jollywell close down!! Not only should the perpetrator be expelled, so should the entire NUS management. The mindset of the management team is clearly archaic. I feel bad for the victim, and all female students at NUS. Disgusting how the top dogs of NUS can't do the right thing! We see increasing incompetence at the top in many of our institutions!
