He was speaking after a virtual engagement session with partners of Uplift, a multi-agency task force set up in 2018 to support vulnerable students and their families. Uplift stands for Uplifting Pupils in Life and Inspiring Families Taskforce.
He said the Government will scale up Uplift initiatives to better support students from disadvantaged backgrounds as announced in November last year. Under the nationwide Uplift Community Network, disadvantaged students living in eight more towns including Bedok, Choa Chu Kang and Sengkang will also get additional help to attend school more regularly from this year.
Among the partners at the engagement session was Singapore Management University's Centre for Social Responsibility representative Pam Wan.
That’s a no brainer which many parents have apparently forgotten. They were under the impression it’s the teacher’s job, and that’s how we end up with entitled parents and brats for the next generation.
Absolutely! Mum and dad showed what it meant to be a good neighbor, a hardworking, law-abiding and a righteous person. They were ppl of integrity.
If not parents, then who? Teach? Difficult to teach such qualities. Parents can only be role models to the children and try to inculcate such values/habits in the children. Ultimately it is still up to the children!
Yes, Chinese parents in particular must first educate themselves on using this device and then educate their children to do the same.
