Flexible Work News

Work-Life Balance

SINGAPORE — For several months last year, marketing executive Ms Melissa Sta Maria spent three hours every weekday on commuting from her home in Yishun to her former workplace in Pasir Ris and back by public transport.

Younger workers view the new Tripartite Guidelines on Flexible Work Arrangement Requests announced on Tuesday as"a step in the right direction" towards better work-life balance

The guidelines stipulate that employers must have a formal process for employees to request a flexible arrangement in terms of their workload, their work hours and their place of work However, these workers had mixed feelings about how effective these guidelines would be in changing some employers' reservations toward FWAs

In addition to work from home initiatives, employers should also consider granting other forms of FWAs for employees who may be unable to choose their workplace and consider establishing a"right to disconnect" from work outside working hours, they said Human resource experts added that employees should clearly communicate the benefits of FWAs both for themselves and the organisation, and emphasise how they can contribute to productivity and employee well-beingWe know it's a hassle to switch browsers but we want your experience with TODAY to be fast, secure and the best it can possibly be.Upgraded but still having issues?
