NEW YORK : American artistic swimmer Bill May wants to see the next generation inspired to break gender barriers, as his sport allows male competitors at the Paris Olympics for the first time.

"Then when it was added to the Olympics, it was just that kind of extra cherry on top that I was like, 'Okay, this is a final thing that I'm going to go for'." World Aquatics announced in 2022 that men would be allowed to compete in artistic swimming at the Games. May said the change could have a profound impact on future generations.
