BERLIN: A strike by train drivers over pay severely disrupted services across Germany on Wednesday , adding to pressure on European supply chains and frustrating passengers at a time of high demand during the summer holiday season.

Deutsche Bahn spokesperson Achim Stauss said the company was trying to keep one in four long-distance trains running and to have at least a trip every two hours between large cities. "If the strikes last longer, considerable costs can arise for companies because interrupted supply chains quickly lead to production stoppages," VDA president Hildegard Mueller told Reuters.

"Our colleagues went on strike in a very disciplined manner," Weselsky told Reuters, adding the union would only return to the negotiating table if Deutsche Bahn made an improved pay offer.

Germany to stop free COVID-19 tests - reportGermany wants to end free coronavirus tests in October, the RND group of newspapers reported on Monday, citing a draft proposal to be discussed by Chancellor Angela Merkel and leaders of the country's 16 states. The government made the tests free for all in March to make a gradual return to normal life possible after a lockdown to break a third wave of COVID-19. 'Given that all vaccination is immediately available to all citizens, it is no longer justifiable that the federal government and therefore taxpayers cover the cost of all tests,' RND cited from a draft proposal.

Heathrow said that in July over 1.5 million travellers passed through the airport, making it the busiest month since March 2020, just before COVID-19 lockdowns began in Europe and travel was essentially stopped. The airport, the busiest in Britain, and before COVID-19 the busiest in Europe, said that the government needed to do more to help travel return to even close to 2019 levels.

Vaccination rates jumped as the French faced the prospect of being denied some daily pleasures but it also spurred a wave of street protests. isnt NAZIs also denied jew access to dine in restuarants, and access to trains? wow.. need i say more.
