SINGAPORE — The Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) is warning members of the public about a phishing scam involving emails impersonating its officers, with at least 13 of such cases reported in a span of three days.

“As these email addresses do not belong to Case and as the emails did not originate from Case, we are unable to ascertain the number of affected consumers,” said its executive director Lee Siow Hwee in the statement.“These 13 reports were made by consumers who have previously lodged consumer complaints with Case. Of these 13 individuals, five also received similar phishing emails in October 2022,” said Ms Lee.

Case said that checks have been done on its IT system and database and confirmed that they remain secure and have not been compromised.Case advised consumers who receive a similar email notification not to click on the links or chat icons and not to disclose personal information and bank details to any third party.

“Case will not direct consumers through email or live chat to visit another website to receive updates on their cases or to receive monetary compensation,” the statement added. On Friday, the Municipal Services Office warned members of the public of a phishing scam involving amasquerading as its online service for residents to send feedback and complaints.

The fake QR code attempting to pass off as the OneService Lite QR code leads to a phishing website asking for personal information, said the MSO.
