After three years of pandemic living, it should be second nature for us to mask up when unwell, but this has not been the case, says Vivian Teo.

One camp is rejoicing and ready to throw away their masks while the other camp feels wary and will continue masking up on public transport.

Recently, a friend, X, told me about a lunch gathering with friends. Her friend, Y, had just returned from overseas and was having a sore throat. But because she tested negative for COVID-19 with an ART kit, Y decided to attend the lunch. While my friend can’t say for sure that the old folks caught the germs from the coughing kids, the bottom line is that if her cousin was socially responsible, he would have kept his kids at home, or at the very least have them wear masks and keep their distance.Commentary: A quieter Chinese New Year celebration for my family, even with no COVID-19 restrictions

I get it that there are times when one needs to be out even though one is unwell, but if that’s the case, at least wear a face mask. Haven’t we learnt from the pandemic? The problem is some people seem to have the mentality that when you’re sick, so long as it’s not COVID-19, it’s okay to not wear a mask and go about one’s usual activities. As if other germs and viruses don’t count.

I wear mask cause I look like Ronaldinho

Looks like people are dying to have the virus mutated to a deadly strain so that they can hear from the government on why they should wear masks.

Bcoz I feel so uncomfortable n incomplete without the mask - got very much used to it ( safety is not my concern, I wear it out of habit)

Bater than life 👍

I will keep my mask on, and it's got nothing to do with the pandemic. With my mask on, no one will know I don't have a pretty face.

Cos I believe the jabs don’t work

It’s your choice and I respect it. Likewise I too made a choice and hope we can live with it.

U want to wear a mask. Up to u

Only irresponsible people and vain pots will not wear mask when they are unwell. They probably assume their face is too attractive to wear a mask even when they are sick.

well said, have seen too many even with masks on mandatory, when they cough, the lower the mask or when they sneeze, they lower the mask!!!, now with no mask, it is open sesame for them

my GP said I'm old ,should continue wearing mask..he said just look at the clinic queue ,so many flu cases

Cannot agree more. 👍

This article is wrong on so many levels. Some Singaporeans are scared of their own shadow… no wonder they’ll keep wearing masks even if it doesn’t make sense anymore.

Up to individual. Not following anyone.

the writer will be flu and covid naive for a long time

Finally its up to each to choose. Been waiting very long. But seeing people still with mask at night outdoor , sure many will keep it on just to follow old rules. In my view ridiculous. But free now

How many times you heard immune compromised should go and get the 4th jab. Immune compromised should always wear mask everywhere blah blah blah. Have you ever wonder ? It's the relentless vaccine and long term mask wearing that ultimately reduced your natural immunity.

You do you. Ain’t nobody stop you.

How many family, marriage, friendship etc had been wrecked because of the opinions on vaccine. Now they're playing the same squid game all over again with never ending mask propaganda. It's going to be a very polarised World, folks.

Wearing a mask cannot stop dengue ...... Pls pay more attention to dengue than covid19 ..... Dengue has got no vaccination . Dengue virus serotype 3 (DENV-3) has been detected in 9 of the 11 dengue clusters with red colour alert.

Please continue to buy and wear masks else those masks sellers will be out of job and blame govt for not getting them another new job because all they know is to sell masks

Mask is a huge problem due to littering. Every 5 m in singapore street you see a mask litter on the floor.

This is true. Please take great care if unmasked.

I like that I don’t really have to shave my face so often. Also, perfect for someone like me who hates to bump into people I know outside. It’s way harder for people to recognise me with a mask outside.

wearing mask when one is sick is a social responsibility in Japan even before the pandemic. Many Singaporeans seem to admire the Japanese way of life and country from the amount of travelers heading to that country just after the opening up of borders. why not just do the same..

U can wear and nobody is stopping you. But I can also share 101 reasons why I’ll not be wearing masks….
