Some residents living in Bukit Panjang were surprised when they saw fireworks shooting into the sky nearby on Saturday night (Oct 14).

It turns out the fireworks were because the Tao Bu Keng temple in Choa Chu Kang was celebrating the Nine Emperor Gods festival.

The Nine Emperor Gods festival is celebrated by the Taoist community and is also known as the Vegetarian Festival or 九皇爺誕 and lasts nine days. Facebook user Cheong Hengrui posted a poster of the event, inviting people to join the temple in viewing the 'beautiful fireworks display' at 36 Jalan Teck Whye at 8.30pm on Saturday.Girl allegedly suffers first-degree burn on her face from National Day fireworks display
