Woman sent to mental health facility after grandchildren die months apart in her care

A woman, who is now facing an aggravated manslaughter charge after her two grandchildren died in her care, has been sent to a mental health facility to have her open up about what happened. , Tracey Nix was asked to seek mental help for 30 days so she can recount the events that led to the death of her two grandchildren less than a year apart while in her care.

"I would just like to see her get help. I would like to see her come back to whatever normal will be," the 65-year-old’s husband Nun Ney Nix told the court last week. "She is a very smart and intelligent person. She has a psychology degree, but the fact that she’s not talking tells me she needs someone that can help her work through these issues," he added.

Her grandson drowned while she was supposed to be looking after him less than a year ago, while her seven-month-old granddaughter passed away when she left her in a hot car in November 2022. “She’s having a hard time discussing the incident with her husband, with any other people and that includes her attorneys. As we all very know that could very well prove a competency issue down the line judge. One of the main reasons why we are filing this motion is to nip that in the butt early,” he said.

Since Tracey “was once an educator” and is “highly regarded,” the judge granted the request to have her take part in a mental health program in St. Cloud. She has been sent to the in-patient facility on Friday, April 28 and will appear in court for the second time in June this year.
