The lawyers of convicted drug mule Mary Jane Velasco have expressed elation over the Supreme Court (SC) decision which allowed to get her testimony at the Indonesian jail, where she is detained, against her two alleged illegal recruiters.

“We are elated that finally, our Highest Court has ruled favorably on our prayer that our client Mary Jane Veloso be allowed to speak out fully and put things on judicial record the horrible ordeal she went through,” the National Union of People’s Lawyers said in a statement.

Cristina Sergio and Julius Lacanilao, her alleged illegal recruiters who sent her to Indonesia, are facing charges of illegal recruitment and human trafficking before the Regional Trial Court Branch 88 in Sto. Domingo, Nueva Ecija. The NUPL said the SC ruling was timely since the RTC gave the lawyers until October 28 a last chance to get her deposition.
