The 30-year-old national record holder leapt 7.56 meters to rule the 13-player field, beating closest pursuers Georgia’s Lasha Gulelauri and Kyrgyzstan’s Timur Isakov.Ubas opened his bid with a 7.10m leap before improving to 7.56m on his second jump. He fouled on his third leap, and managed to register 7.49m, 7.36m and 7.51m on his last three jumps.
His recent showing eclipsed his previous golden feat at the Thai Championships in Pathum Thani, Thailand last week where he posted 7.51m, but it was still far from his season-best 7.83m he registered in the National Championships in Pasig last May. Though it was also a far cry from the Olympic qualifying standard of 8.27m, his golden performance gained him enough points to boost his ranking that is critical in the final phase of Paris qualifications.
Currently ranked No. 46, Ubas hopes to save the best for last in his final tournament this month at the Silk Road to Olympic Tashkent in Uzbekistan on June 28 to 29.
