MANILA - Following the suspension of canoe-kayak and windsurfing competitions in the 30th Southeast Asian Games, official have also rescheduled surfing events, as the country braces for typhoon Tisoy's impact.
Some events in the week-long surfing competition, which began Monday, have been rescheduled due to unfavorable weather conditions."Minsan lang 'tong SEA Games. So we want to give the best condition to the surfers. Marami pang araw na puwedeng gawin 'yun. Hindi siya the best condition so i-cut muna namin," surfing competition manager Kat Bolina said.
Prior to the suspension, the qualifying rounds for men's and women's shortboard categories were held Monday morning.Tents and judges’ platform were stripped off of SEA Games flags. Aside from surfing, other competitions have also been rescheduled due to the typhoon. Tisoy is expected to make landfall in Bicol between Monday night and Tuesday morning, state weather bureau PAGASA said in its 11 a.m. advisory.
"Life-threatening" waves at least 3 meters high can hit coastal town in Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Catanduanes, it said.
