Several organizations have been trying to monitor and save our remaining biodiversity in this region. There are even non-Davao based institutions which are also doing their initiatives to save them from disappearing in this part of the world. Because of this, the Marilog conservation project team conducted a participatory inventory, determined diversity indices, assessed conservation status and endemism, and conducted capability activities across five sites in the forest reserve: New Calinan, Mount Molambo, Mount Ulahingan, Epol, and sitio Matigsalug.

Biodiversity facing extinction are not confined to the Philippines only. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that one million species are at risk of extinction. “Ecosystems are disappearing before our eyes, deserts are spreading, and wetlands are being lost,” he pointed out. This is alarming, indeed. “Of all the global problems that confront us, species extinction is one that is moving the most rapidly and the one that will have the most serious consequences,” contends Dr. Peter Raven, a noted American biologist.

According to the Biodiversity Management Bureau , a line agency of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the Philippines has more than 2,500 endemic flora and fauna species, excluding insects and other invertebrates.

ChatGPT has taken the world, even the Philippines, by storm, as it is free, and is most people's (mine at least) first experience in interacting with an AI, which even serious computer scientists warn could, if safeguards are not imposed, go against this irrational species called humanity, as the 'Terminator,' 'Matrix' and other popular movies have depicted.

In or out of government?THERE has been much commentary on the termination of Finance Undersecretary Cielo Magno. Columnist Antonio Contreras, in my view, struck the right balance and had the proper perspective in his September 14 column on this subject. As most of the other commentaries seem to think her termination, firing or resignation (your take on what it was) was a sign of intolerance or worse. Let me add my view.
