Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian, chairman of the Senate energy committee, said on Thursday that in doing so, this would ensure power companies have contingency measures in place for the dry season.
Gatchalian’s statement came in anticipation that power plants may break down due to high demand for electricity this summer. “Right now, our electric supply is sufficient until May. This means we have enough reserves. The problem is when the plants break down,” Gatchalian said as he recalled that seven power plants broke down last year.
