MANILA - Several universities in Manila have advised students and faculty to undergo a 14-day self-quarantine if they had come from a trip to China amid concerns over the fast-spreading new coronavirus.
Announcements came after the Department of Health confirmed the Philippines' first case of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus , a 38-year-old woman from the Chinese city of Wuhan, where the virus originated. The death toll in China from the new coronavirus has reached more than 200, with overall cases worldwide rising rapidly in an outbreak that the World Health Organization declared a global health emergency.
Here are universities that released advisories to their respective school communities regarding the virus: Adamson called on all Chinese students to "observe self-quarantine" starting Jan. 31, the date the memo was issued, until Feb. 14. It did not mention previous travel to China as a pre-requisite to the voluntary quarantine.
"Those who are experiencing fever are highly recommended to take a leave from class or work until fully recovered," it said.
