The Supreme Court (SC) is set to hold this January special Shari’a bar examinations.

SC Clerk of Court Edgar Aricheta announced that the high tribunal has issued a resolution which scheduled the Shari’a bar examinations next year on January 19 and 26.

The SC issued the resolution at the recommendation of the Office of the Bar Confidant to grant the request of National Commission on Muslim Filipinos Secretary Saidamen Pangarungan to hold the Shari’a Bar Examinations. With this, the SC appointed Court of Appeals Associate Justice Japar Dimaampao as chairperson of the Board of Examiners for the Shari’a Bar Examinations.The SC reminded that those who want to take the exams have until only December 15 to file their petitions before the OBC.

Shari’a courts are Shari’a District Courts and Shari’a Circuit Courts that were created in 1977 through Presidential Decree 1083, which is also known as the Code of Muslim Personal Laws. These courts, which were created specifically for the effective administration and enforcement of the Code of Muslim Personal Laws, are subject to the administrative supervision of the Supreme Court.
