The local government of San Juan City has postponed its planned public activities this weekend and next week following the first local case of coronavirus diseases 2019 (COVID-19) involving a 62-year-old man who regularly visited a prayer hall in the city.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said he convened the city’s Coronavirus Task Force on Friday afternoon, and ordered all concerned agencies under the city government to practice vigilance against the spread of the virus.

The Department of Health reported on Friday the first local case of COVID-19 in the Philippines, involving a 62-year-old Filipino man who had no history of travel overseas. “We advise the public to remain calm. Kindly follow DOH precautionary measures such as proper hand washing and proper coughing etiquette,” Zamora said.
