Lawmakers called on the Duterte government Thursday to conduct first a comprehensive study before it fully implements its motorcycle barrier policy on August 1.

“From the perspective of safe motorcycle riding, it is an added layer of risk. If we take a look at the statistics, this is coming from MMDA , in 2019, there were 31, 279 motorcycle-related road crashes, on average of 86 cases per day. If these attachments are there it can cause added injury,” Biazon said.

Responding to Biazon’s concerns, NTF Undersecretary Isidro Purisima said, “this is being reviewed right now by the Interagency Task Force. This was presented yesterday. We will present the outcome of the study once the IATF will be able to come up with a decision, your Honor.”
