The first crossing bridge connecting Luzon and the Visayas should be included in the government’s Mega Bridge Program to address seaport congestion, a House Minority Leader said on Monday.
“The bridge will solve the recurring problem of seaport congestion and thousands of passengers getting stranded during weather disturbances,” Libanan said. For decades, he said, roll-on, roll-off ferries have been carrying passengers and vehicles over the San Bernardino Strait between seaports in the Municipality of Allen in Northern Samar and the Municipality of Matnog in Sorsogon.
A previous study commissioned by the National Economic and Development Authority ascertained the feasibility of building a crossing bridge that would connect Allen and Matnog.
