The Philippine Red Cross’ suspension of government-funded COVID-19 testing could “distort” the country’s efforts against the pandemic, Senator Ralph Recto warned Thursday.
Recto said the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation should have been proactive in paying the PRC for its services to the government, especially the testing of arriving and repatriated overseas Filipino workers . The PRC last October 14 stopped conducting COVID-19 tests for the government due to the PhilHealth’s failure to settle its outstanding debts amounting to at least P930 million. President Duterte has assured that the government will pay its debt to the PRC, but “it will take time”.
