Camiguin lone district Rep. Xavier Jesus (XJ) Romualdo has thumbed down calls to have names of COVID-19 patients disclosed, saying it could worsen discrimination against them.

“I respectfully disagree with the proposal,” Romualdo said Friday, referring to calls from his fellow lawmakers.

Dujali said his recommendation has two objectives: first, to create an effective deterrent for such persons from violating the quarantine measure and hospital protocols; and second, to strengthen the mandatory reporting provided under Republic Act 11332, or the Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act.

“Hirap ‘pag ganyan. ‘Pag umubo ka nga lang ngayon ang sama na nang tingin ng mga tao sa ‘yo. Paano na lang kaya pag alam ng mga tao positive ka? ” he said. Her statement after some 36,000 residents of Guimbal, Iloilo were tagged by the DOH – Region VI as PUMs after local transmission of COVID-19 was confirmed in the town.
