MANILA, Philippines -- Philippine Sports Commission chairman William "Butch" Ramirez said they will not act independently when making a decision regarding the future of Filipino athletes, after their competitions and activities were halted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the agency will continue to support the Filipino national athletes and coaches, they will not be allowed to compete without a go-signal from the IATF and the Department of Health . "I must have that authorization that everything is normal. You and I are aware that there is no longer the old normal. There will be a new normal in the coming days," he added.

"Being under Office of the President, as the head of the office, it was my position to cancel all activities," Ramirez said. "Without the authorization of the IATF and the DOH, I will not send any athletes for foreign engagement."
