A group urged President Duterte on Thursday to recognize and acknowledge private schools when he delivers the State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA) next week.

The Federation of Associations of Private School Administrators said that the inclusion of private schools in the President’s SoNA on July 27 can help boost the morale of those in the private education sector during this time of pandemic.

He said private schools “have become marginalized because the Duterte administration has spoiled the public schools not much for what they need but for what public school teachers want.” The private education sector suffered an all-time low in enrollment for the upcoming school year compared to the recent years.

Due to the combined impact of COVID-19 and the downturn of the economy, DepEd continues to monitor the migration of students from private to public schools.
