Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, deputy chief for Operations of the Philippine National Police and concurrent chairman of the Oversight Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs, said both the PDEA and the PNP have been criticized for giving out conflicting figures and data relating to the drug war.As a result, the public was given a wrong impression that the government was either hiding something, or the conflicting data was misconstrued as a proof that the PNP and the PDEA are not working together.
For instance, he said that the public should be informed that the illegal drugs campaign has been very successful in reducing crime incidents in the country in the past three years as it went down by more than 60 percent compared to the last three years of the Aquino administration. There have been instances of conflicting reports about the two agencies in the past three years. Last year alone, the PNP and the PDEA made conflicting reports on the number of policemen being linked to illegal drugs.
Eleazar then made an effort to unify all the agencies that are tapped to help in the illegal drugs campaign by pushing for the creation of the Quad-Intel Group which is composed of PDEA, PNP, the military and the National Bureau of Investigation. For instance, he said there have been a lot of pending bills before the Congress that seek to provide the necessary support for the rehabilitation of Filipinos who are hooked in illegal drugs.
