During last week’s budget hearing of the PCSO before the House Appropriations Committee, Quezon 2nd district Rep. Jay-Jay Suarez highlighted the fact that local lottery game–which generates millions worth of revenue–was still partly being operated by a foreign entity.
The PCSO has an equipment lease agreement with Berjaya-PGMC, the parent firm of which is Berjaya Corporation Berhad–a Malaysian public limited company. According to the Quezon solon, Filipinos–mostly the poor–pool their hard-earned money into their Lotto bets, with the hope of hitting the big pot that would lift them out of poverty.
Garma said that while PCSO’s working relationship with Berjaya-PGMC has been long-running, they have actually began looking at other options.
