President Duterte is concerned about the safety of Filipinos, but the government will not yet impose a temporary deployment ban to Hong Kong despite the recent political unrest in the former British colony.

Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III was still studying a possible deployment ban in Hong Kong, and has, for now, asked Filipinos to avoid places of demonstrations.

“Sabi ni Secretary Bello mino-monitor nila. Ang protocol nila ngayon is they are asking the Filipinos there to avoid those places kung saan merong protest, marches, para hindi sila madamay [Secretary Bello said they are monitoring the situation. The current protocol is they are asking Filipinos there to avoid those places where there are protests, machines so they will not be affected],” he added.

Anti-government activists have launched street protests to denounce a bill that would have allowed extradition from Hong Kong to mainland China.
