Fifteen flights to and from Hong Kong were canceled on Monday due to ongoing protests in the special administrative region of China. | DYGalvezINQ

The ongoing protest actions in Hong Kong was sparked two months ago by calls to withdraw an extradition bill that will send residents facing charges to mainland China to stand trial.

People wave their cell phone lights at a protest held by civil servants in the Central District of Hong Kong on August 2, 2019, in the latest opposition to a planned extradition law that was quickly evolved into a wider movement for democratic reforms. – Hong Kong civil servants on August 2 night kicked off a weekend of anti-government protests and unsanctioned rallies in defiance of warnings from China and after a prominent independence campaigner was arrested.

The protesters’ major demands include the release of arrested demonstrators, an independent investigation into alleged police abuse and the dissolution of the current legislature, which is only partially composed of lawmakers who were directly elected.
