Pacquiao issued the statement after Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III shot down proposals that convicted high-level personalities in the multi-billion-peso illegal drugs industry should face the firing squad.
Pacquiao and neophyte Senator Ronald Dela Rosa favored firing squad as mode of imposing the death penalty.While the Senate has yet to debate on his pro-death penalty bill, Pacquiao insisted that capital punishment should be imposed on high-level crimes – either by lethal injection or other modes that may be agreed upon.
He insisted that the death penalty is allowed by the Constitution and the Bible, particularly Romans 13:1-7. Pacquiao is confident that his bill imposing death penalty on high-level drug trafficking would be approved by the Senate as President Duterte has more allies now in the Senate following the May 2019 mid-term elections.
But Pacquiao is not that confident on President Duterte’s proposal to impose death penalty on plunderers.
