The Sangguniang Barangay of Malay released the resolution on March 11 saying the declaration should serve as a deterrent to visitors “who arrogantly refuse to heed methods and processes” in the popular destination.
Aklan Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force chairperson Atty. Selwyn Ibarreta confirmed in a phone interview that the Aklan government has filed legal complaints against 11 tourists for falsification of documents. Ibarreta added that the validation team of the provincial task force was being harassed by the tourists, but did not provide details.The Department of Tourism has also filed criminal complaints against six other Boracay tourists for falsifying their RT-PCR test results.
In a press event on Wednesday, Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat said the DOT was serious in banning such tourists as they put the lives of tourism workers and residents of Boracay at risk.
