TACLOBAN CITY – The oldest World War II veteran in Eastern Visayas at 104 years old is living and thriving with several other war veterans who are slightly younger than him.

– The oldest World War II veteran in Eastern Visayas at 104 years old is living and thriving with several other war veterans who are slightly younger than him.Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico L. Petilla said that his office conducted the “Search for the Oldest World War II Veteran 2019” in Eastern Visayas and found out that the oldest living World War II veteran is Valentin Aurelia, 104 years old.Petilla said Aurelia was born on June 15, 1915 in barangay Andres Bonifacio , Javier, Leyte.

Nine other living World War II veterans on the list include: Rosendo Tejero, 103 years old from Borongan City, Eastern Samar who was born on April 2, 1916; Maximo Abaigar, 103, who was born in October 1916 in barangay Piquit, Paranas, Samar; Felimon Enero, 102 who was born on June 16, 1917 in barangay Malobago, San Roque, Northern Samar; Edilberto Briones, 100, who was born on February 23, 1919 in barangay Bito, Abuyog, Leyte; Maxima Satorre, 98, who was born on June 30, 1921 in Leyte, Leyte;...

Petilla said Aurelia will receive P75,000.00 while the other nine living veterans will receive P25,000.00 each. Petilla said that based on records, there are 105 living World War II veterans in Eastern Visayas. They are expected to attend the 75th Leyte Gulf Landings commemoration to be held in McArthur Landing Memorial National Park on October 20.
