The Omicron outbreak in Metro Manila remains severe, while three highly-urbanized cities in the Philippines are now classified under the “mature stage” of the surge, an OCTA Research fellow said on Thursday, Jan. 13.In a Twitter post, OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David said that the Omicron outbreak in Metro Manila is still severe with its average daily attack rate of 111.80.
ADAR pertains to the number of new cases in an area over a two-week period. A high ADAR indicates a high risk of coronavirus disease transmission in the area. Meanwhile, Baguio City, Angeles City, and Santiago are on a “mature stage” of the outbreak, recording ADARs of 39.48, 26.65, and 25.23 respectively.
David likewise reported that the following HUCs are on the “accelerating stage” of the Omicron outbreak: Naga City, Dagupan, Lucena, Olongapo, Iloilo City, and Lapu-Lapu, while Cagayan de Oro, Cebu City, and Davao City remained at an early stage. The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases placed Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, Laguna, Baguio City, Dagupan City, Santiago City, Cagayan, Angeles City, Bataan, Olongapo City, Pampanga, Zambales, Batangas, Lucena City, Naga City, Iloilo City and Lapu-Lapu City under an Alert Level 3 status until Jan. 15, 2022 to prevent the viral transmission of COVID-19.
