The province of Batanes is no longer coronavirus-free as it recorded its first case of COVID-19 on Monday, September 28.

"We regret to inform the public that one Locally Stranded Individual who arrived last September 22 via Philippine Air Force has tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, September 28," the provincial government of Batanes said in a Facebook post on Tuesday, September 29. The patient is asymptomatic and currently in isolation at the Batanes Resort, while close contacts of the patient and other LSIs under quarantine are closely being monitored, it added.

On August 30, the Department of Health mistagged a supposed positive case in the province, and later clarified that it was an encoding error. As of Monday, the Philippines still has the most number of COVID-19 infections in Southeast Asia at 307,288, despite having one of the longest lockdowns in the world. Of the total confirmed cases, 49,242 are active. – Rappler.com
