The Mindanao Development Authority has set a trade mission to Papua New Guinea to flesh out prior understanding for officials and business groups in the host country to open sustainable commerce with their counterparts in Southern Philippines, including the Bangsamoro region.
Sec. Piñol said the modalities of the upcoming trade mission were initially agreed upon between him and Papua New Guinea Ambassador to the Philippines Betty Palaso and Vice Minister Mannaseh Makiba before his transfer to the MinDA from the Department of Agriculture early this month. While the upcoming Sept. 3-9 trade mission is a “private business-to-business” venture, Pinol said, he and the PNG government will formalize verbal agreement on “intensified commerce” between Mindanao and Papua New Guinea.
President Duterte had also named Piñol as his “point man” in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao in addition to his being the MinDA chair.
