3 die, 2 mission in boat collision off Rio Grande Mindanao
COTABATO CITY - At least three people were killed, while two others remained missing after two motorboats collided Saturday night at the Rio Grande Mindanao in the coastal town Sultan Kudarat in Maguindanao.
By Joseph JubelagCOTABATO CITY– At least three people were killed, while two others remained missing after two motorboats collided Saturday night at the Rio Grande Mindanao in the coastal town Sultan Kudarat in Maguindanao.Authorities said the collision was caused by low visibility as the two motorboats were sailing without navigational lights.
Sultan Kudarat municipal administrator Banjo Mampon said one motorboat with about 10 people on board was on its way to Barangay Katidtuan, Sultan Kudarat from this city, while the other motorboat was heading to Cotabato City from Barangay Maydapa.He said two victims, identified as Pudi Guiarel and Seddic Esmael were still missing.
The bodies of three victims were recovered Sunday morning and were identified as Elmie Norodin and minors Jomar Akir and Jowaina Saling.He said Sultan Kudarat Mayor Shameen Mastura has organized a rescue team which conducted the search and rescue operations for the victims who were drowned after the boats capsized following the collision.
“We’re hoping to rescue the two remaining missing victims,” Mampon said.He said the fatalities are said to relatives of Mastura who also provided cash assistance to their families. Read more: Manila Bulletin News »
