MANILA, Philippines: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday welcomed Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Malacañang as the two leaders sought to reaffirm the two countries' bilateral ties.

Kishida arrived at the Kalayaan Grounds with his wife, Yuko, and was received by Marcos and several Cabinet members.After Marcos and Kishida met at the Palace Grounds, the Japanese leader proceeded to sign the guest book at Malacañang's Reception Hall.The two leaders later met in a bilateral meeting before delivering their joint press statement.

'Both leaders are expected to discuss the two countries' multifaceted and dynamic cooperation on political and security cooperation and economic and people-to-people relations,' Garafil said, quoting a statement from the Department of Foreign AffairsMarcos and Kishida are also expected to talk about Japan's official development assistance to the Philippines, of which Tokyo has been the biggest contributor.
