Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana is set to meet United States (US) Defense Secretary Mark Esper to discuss the South China Sea dispute and efforts to defeat terrorism.

Esper will visit South Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam starting November 13, Wednesday, as he marked his second trip in the Indo-Pacific region in three months.

In terms of military cooperation, a mutual defense treaty was forged between the two countries dating from 1951. In particular, he said the military’s efforts to fight Islamic State of Iraq and Syria -linked terrorist groups in the country continue following the recent death of its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

“Ang danger dito, ‘yung mga babalik sa Malaysia and Indonesia na maaring lumipat dyan sa Mindanao. Ito ang ating babantayan ,” he added.
