Marcos issued the statement after Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Ano, IATF chief, rejected her option for a limited face-to-face classes few times a week. “And no, I am not invoking wholesale school openings and the return to a full in-school schedule. Nor have DepEd or the LGUs had the budget for them, compelling teachers to print modules out of pocket and transport them at great physical cost. Surely, our kids going to class one to three hours a week won’t be more expensive,’’ she explained.
“The IATF should establish parameters for school openings — infection rate in the area, viable classrooms for physical distancing and ventilation, hand washing, strict monitoring of compliance — and then allow local school boards, including LGUs, the DepEd, and parent-teacher associations to decide the appropriate combination of blended learning on the ground.
