The House Committee on Basic Education and Culture formed Tuesday a technical working group (TWG) that would consolidate the five measures seeking to provide teaching supplies allowance for public school teachers after teachers’ groups sought an increase in their chalk allowance.

The House panel, chaired by Pasig City Rep. Roman Romulo, designated Negros Occidental Rep. Leo Rafael Cueva to be the chairman of the TWG.

Before the approval of Palma’s motion, ACT Teachers partylist Rep. France Castro said the current P3,500 teaching supplies allowance of the teachers be increased to P5,000. During the first initial deliberations on the measures, Manila Public School Teachers Association president Solita Daz said they are not receiving enough assistance from the DepEd as far as the provision on teaching supplies is concerned.
