A free legal consultation online to the public offered by a lawyers’ group called VALOR-19 will end on Friday, June 19, benefiting 800 individuals.

This prompted a reaction from Vice President Leni Robredo, who said the initiative was another proof that Filipinos “respond to the worst of times with the best of ourselves—that we step up when it truly matters.”

“We are grateful to all the lawyers, law students, and creatives who volunteered for VALOR-19,” she wrote in a Facebook post. VALOR-19–which stands for Volunteer and Lawyers Organized for the Rule of law—is composed of lawyers, including Chel Diokno, and law students who have responded to legal questions from the public during the community quarantine.In its Facebook page, the group said they started on April 9 with 30 lawyers and law students which grew to more than 200 volunteers.

VALOR-19 has addressed various questions from Filipinos about different topics and concerns such as guidelines under the community quarantine, government assistance, labor issues, human rights, free speech online, among others. “We have received approximately 930 questions and responded to almost 800 questions to date,” it said.The vice president showed her appreciation to the lawyers’ group for proving free“As this initiative comes to a close, I’d like to thank all of our volunteers for their generosity and goodwill,” Robredo said.
